Modem Manager GUI

Summary

Modem Manager GUI is a simple GTK based graphical interface compatible with Modem manager, Wader and oFono system services able to control EDGE/3G/4G broadband modem specific functions. You can check balance of your SIM card, send or receive SMS messages, control mobile traffic consumption and more using Modem Manager GUI.

Current features:

  • Send and receive SMS messages and store messages in database
  • Initiate USSD requests and read answers (also using interactive sessions)
  • View device information: operator name, device mode, IMEI, IMSI, signal level
  • Scan available mobile networks
  • View mobile traffic statistics and set limits

Please note that some features may be not available due to limitations of different system services or even different versions of system service in use.

Modem Manager GUI is distributed under the GNU GPL v3. In order to be entitled to download Modem Manager GUI you must accept the GNU license.

Source code

Stable releases

You can build your own version of the program or make changes in it using source code archive: Modem Manager GUI 0.0.18. All older releases can be found in Modem Manager GUI Source code download section.

Development version

Source code of development version is available from Mercurial repository. You can download it using command:

hg clone https://linuxonly@bitbucket.org/linuxonly/modem-manager-gui

Building from source

You need some skills to build program from source. First of all, you'll need to install such development packages:

  • GTK version 3.4.0 or later
  • Glib version 2.32.1 or later
  • GDBM version 1.10 or later
  • po4a version 0.45 or later
  • itstool version 1.2.0 or later
  • libappindicator-gtk3 version 12.10 or later

Next you have to go to directory with program's source code and issue these commands:

sh configure
make
sudo make install

Program will be installed into your system. It's better to build package and install it though. Packages specification files are available in 'packages' directory of source code tree.

Prebuilt packages

Modem Manager GUI prebuilt packages are available from the official repositories of most popular distributions. You can install it in distribution of your choice using one of the following commands:

Fedora

Since Fedora 20 you can install Modem Manager GUI from the official repository:

dnf install modem-manager-gui

Ubuntu

Since Ubuntu 13.10 you can install Modem Manager GUI from the Universe repository:

sudo apt-get install modem-manager-gui

Of course, you can install it same way in various Ubuntu derivatives, such as Linux Mint, elementary OS, etc.

Debian

Since Debian 7.0 Modem Manager GUI is available from the official repository:

apt-get install modem-manager-gui

Arch Linux

Arch Linux users can install program from the Community repository i686, x86_64:

pacman -S modem-manager-gui

Chakra Linux

Chakra Linux users can install program from the Chakra Community Repo:

ccr -S modem-manager-gui

Mageia Linux

Mageia Linux users can install program from the official repository:

urpmi modem-manager-gui

OpenSUSE

OpenSUSE users can install program from the official repository:

zypper in modem-manager-gui
