GSF Software Satfinder


GSF Software Satfinder is a simple GTK based program for DVB card signal monitoring.

Main features:

  • Signal changes sound indication (PulseAudio, ALSA and OSS4)
  • S2API - based tuning (DVB-S and DVB-S2 cards supported)
  • DVR device routing control with broadcast over TCP and UDP
  • Network interfaces control (for satellite data broadcast services)
  • Signal values scaling
  • Transponder tables scan (PAT, PMT, SDT, NIT, TDT)
  • EPG events scan
  • Teletext viewer
  • Fullscreen mode with hi-resolution bars
  • Simple calculations of satellite position and Sun outages

GSF Software Satfinder is distributed under the GNU GPL v3. In order to be entitled to download GSF Software Satfinder you must accept the GNU license.

Source code

Stable releases

You can build your own version of the program or make changes in it using source code archive: GSF Software Satfinder 0.2.3. All older releases can be found in GSF Software Satfinder Source code download section. Sounds packages are also there.

Building from source

You need some skills to build program from source. First of all, you'll need to install such development packages:

  • GTK version 3.4.0 or later
  • Glib version 2.32.1 or later
  • GDBM version 1.10 or later
  • ALSA libraries version 1.0.25 or later
  • PulseAudio libraries version 1.1 or later

Next you have to go to directory with program's source code and issue these commands:

sh configure
sudo make install

Program will be installed into your system. It's better to build package and install it though. Packages specification files are available in 'packages' directory of source code tree.

Prebuilt packages

GSF Software Satfinder prebuilt packages are available from my private repositories for most popular distributions. You can install it in distribution of your choice using one of the following commands:


You can install program from my PPA repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linuxonly/gsatfinder
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gsatfinder-sounds-en gsatfinder

Of course, you can install it same way in various Ubuntu derivatives, such as Linux Mint, elementary OS, etc.
